Camera Can Be Mounted Over the Microscope Eyepiece

Camera Mounted Over Microscope EyepieceIf your microscope does not have a camera port (also known as a trinocular port) you can still mount your camera over the eyepiece using an adapter. Typically when you mount the microscope camera over the eyepiece you will see less of the field of view because the camera has more magnification.

The Motic microscope cameras include two adapter rings for mounting over different size microscope eyepieces and one of these should allow you to fit your camera over the eyepiece.

Camera Can Be Mounted on the Trinocular Port

Microscope with Camera and C-Mount

The trinocular port is made specifically for mounting a camera and this is where the c-mount adapter sits. Each microscope with a trinocular port should have a specific c-mount adapter that was made to work with that trinocular port. (If you find a trinocular microscope that does not have a c-mount adapter made for it, don't purchase it as this is a poor design!) A c-mount adapter has standard 1" threads and microscope cameras will thread directly onto the c-mount adapter.

Mounting a camera on the trinocular port is the best option if available because it leaves the eyepieces free for viewing samples. Mounting the camera on the trinocular port also allows you to select a proper magnification for the c-mount adapter so the camera can view similar magnification as you see through the eyepieces.
